  • The purpose of the post is to advance the aim of the Public Dental Service to improve the Oral Health of the population as a whole 
  • This involves having an integrated multi-sectorial approach that is evidence based. 
  • This involves the provision of dental treatment to the eligible population on a targeted approach. 

 

Essential Criteria

Candidates must have at the latest date of application:  

 

Professional Qualifications, Experience, etc. 

 

1. Hold a Degree, Licence or Diploma in Dental Surgery / Dental Science; 

And 

 

2. Be registered in the Register of Dentists for Ireland or be entitled to be so registered; 

And 

 

3. Have had, since becoming eligible under paragraph (1) above, at least one year of satisfactory experience in the practice of dentistry; 

 

And 

 

4. Possess a high standard of professional knowledge and ability (including a high standard of suitability) for the proper discharge of the duties of the office. 

 

 

Health 

A candidate for and any person holding the office must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the office and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.  

 

Character 

Each candidate for and any person holding the office must be of good character. 

 

Please note that appointment to and continuation in posts that require statutory registration is dependent upon the post holder maintaining annual registration in the relevant division of the register maintained by The Medical Council of Ireland or Irish Dental Council.
