Overview

The person appointed to this Senior Occupational Therapist position will work in conjunction with other team members on the acute neurology inpatient service, in co-ordinating and developing the relevant service to meet the needs of the service user group and the objectives of the organisation.

 

The Senior Occupational Therapist will be responsible for the provision of a high-quality Occupational Therapy service to the inpatients and will carry out clinical and educational duties as required.

 

The Senior Occupational Therapist will develop and maintain high standards of clinical practice within their assigned area through clinical evaluation, audit opportunities and evidence-based Occupational Therapy practice.

 

The Senior Occupational Therapist will contribute to a structured process for education of senior and staff grade colleagues, undergraduates and other disciplines in collaboration with the clinical specialist occupational therapists on the service.

Essential Criteria

Candidates must have at the latest date of application:

 

 

Statutory Registration, Professional Qualifications, Experience, etc.

 

 

 

(i)

Be registered on the Occupational Therapists Register maintained by the Occupational Therapists Registration Board at CORU

 

AND

(ii)

 

 

(iii)

Have three years full time (or an aggregate of three years) post qualification clinical experience.

AND

Have the requisite knowledge and ability (including a high standard of suitability and professional ability) for the proper discharge of the duties of the office.

 

AND

(iv)

Provide proof of Statutory Registration on the Occupational Therapists Register maintained by the Occupational Therapists Registration Board at CORU before a contract of employment can be issued.

 

 

Post Specific Requirements:

  • Demonstrate experience of working in an acute care teaching hospital, including working with adults in the specialty of Neurology for a minimum of 2 years in settings such as general medicine, general surgery, care of the older person, stroke and orthopaedics.
  • Demonstrate your experience in prioritising and triaging patients in an acute hospital and in the assessment and provision of their rehabilitation requirements.
  • Demonstrate experience assessing and prescribing specialised seating systems and 24-hour posture management systems.
  • Demonstrate depth and breadth of experience of working as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide rehabilitation input.
  • Outline continuing professional development (CPD) courses related to occupational therapy and neurology in an acute care hospital setting.
