Overview

The post holder will be responsible for the provision of the Highest Standard of Nursing care to Acute Stroke and Acute Geriatric patients within the unit.The primary role of the Clinical Nurse Manager 1 will be one of clinical and professional leadership and development in the nursing team, including the development of nursing staff by means of in-service training, orientation of new staff and arranging for clinical experience and supervision of student nurses where this is appropriate. The ward has 10 designated Stroke Unit Beds including 2 Hyper Acute Stroke Beds in  Acute Stroke Unit and remainder of the ward is shared between Stroke and Acute Specialist Geriatrics. The Stroke Unit provides specialist early care after the stroke event, including frequent nursing assessments and interventions and early rehabilitation.  The area provides immediate and ongoing acute medical care to presenting adult patients in the areas of General medicine /Geriatric/ Acute Stroke and Rehabilitation. The post holder will be responsible for ensuring care of Frail patients and their Rehabilitation, Prevention of complications post Stroke and drive to meet Stroke KPI targets.

 

 

There is currently 1 permanent, whole-time vacancy available.

 A panel may be created from which permanent and specified purpose vacancies of full or part time duration may be filled.

 

 

The salary scale for the post is:

Essential Criteria

Candidates must, at the latest date for receipt of completed applications for the post:

 

  1. (a)
  2. Be a registered nurse on the active Register of Nurses and Midwives held by An Bord Altranais agus Cnáimhseachais na hÉireann (Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland) or be eligible to be so registered.

And

  1. Be registered in the General Division of the register of Nurses and Midwives in which the application is being made.

And

  • Have successfully completed a post registration programme of study, as certified by the education provider, which verifies that the applicant has achieved a Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI), National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) major academic Level 8 or higher relevant to the specialist area of stroke care prior to application

Or

Can provide written evidence from higher education institute that they have achieved the number of ECTS credits equivalent to a Level 8 or higher standard, relevant to the specialist area of stroke care nursing prior to application.

And

  1. Have a minimum of 5 years post registration full time experience or an aggregate of 5 years full time in the General Division of the register in which the application is being made.

And

  1. Have a minimum of 2 years’ full time experience or an aggregate of 2 years full time experience in specialist area of stroke care.

And

  • Demonstrate evidence of continuing professional development.

 

 

(b) Have the ability to practice safely and effectively fulfilling his/her professionalresponsibility within his/her scope of practice

 

  1. Annual registration

 

(i) On appointment, practitioners must maintain live annual registration on theappropriate/relevant Division of the register of Nurses and Midwives maintained by theNursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland [NMBI] (Bord Altranais agus Cnáimhseachaisna hÉireann) for the role.

 

And

 

(ii) Confirm annual registration with NMBI to the HSE by way of the annual Patient SafetyAssurance Certificate (PSAC).

 

Health

A candidate for and any person holding the office must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the office and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.

 

 

Character

Each candidate for and any person holding the office must be of good character.
