Overview

The post holder will be based in Louth Hospitals.

 

Infection Prevention & Control Nurses (IPCN) are key members of a multi- disciplinary Infection prevention and Control team (IPCT). The IPCNs currently work with a team that comprises of microbiology consultants, registers, surveillance scientist, antimicrobial pharmacist and other nurse specialists in other locations within Louth Hospitals.

 

Louth hospitals

provide a number of acute and specialist services on an inpatient, day case and outpatient basis. The hospitals also provide a paediatric and obstetric care and has a regional orthopaedic trauma service. There are also sizeable critical care, neonatal and coronary care units.

 

The Infection Prevention and Control Team are pivotal in the assurance of a service that is safe for both patients abnd staff. The team contributes to this in a number of ways that are outlined within this job description. The post holder will engage within the IPCT and with other service departments and clinical teams. The IPCN will provide specialist-nursing knowledge that will assist in maintaining safe patient care and  meet the healthcare and professional standards requirements.

The HSE has created six new health regions. Each region is responsible for providing both hospital and community care for the people in that area. Bringing community health services and hospitals together means, we can take a more patient-centred approach to healthcare.

 

HSE Dublin and North East provides health and social care to North Dublin, Louth, Meath,

Monaghan and most areas of Cavan.

Essential Criteria

Each candidate must, at the latest date for receipt of completed applications for the post:

 

  • Be registered in the General Division of the Register of Nurses & Midwives maintained by Bord Altranais agus Cnáimhseachais na hÉireann (Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland) or be entitled to be so registered

 

And

 

  • Have at least 5 years post registration experience in the division of the register in which the applicant is currently practising of which 2 in the last 3 years must be in the acute care setting

 

And

 

  • Have the ability to practice safely and effectively fulfilling his/her professional responsibility within his/her scope of practice

 

 

And

Demonstrate evidence of continuing professional development. Have completed or willingness to undertake a level 8 post-registration National Qualifications Authority of Ireland major academic award (or equivalent) relevant to the specialist area of Infection Prevention/Control Nursing
