To ensure the safety of vulnerable people at risk in the community in accordance with the HSE Safeguarding Policy 2014, to provide oversight of all preliminary screenings completed by HSE services and to assist in the reviewing of safeguarding plans.   

To provide necessary safeguarding training in relevant approved centres, to create awareness around the abuse of older persons/those with disabilities and how to report and prevent same. This service also provides a duty safeguarding support service to offer necessary support and guidance to members of the public and professionals.   

Essential Criteria

Statutory Registration, Professional Qualifications, Experience, etc  

 

(a) Candidates for appointment must: 

  

(i) Be registered, or be eligible for registration, on the Social Workers Register  

maintained by the Social Workers Registration Board at CORU.  

AND  

(ii) Have 3 years full time (or an aggregate of 3 years full time) relevant post  

qualification experience.  

AND 

(iii) Have the requisite knowledge and ability (including a high standard of suitability,  

management and professional ability) for the proper discharge of the duties of the  

office.  

 

(iv) Provide proof of Statutory Registration on the Social Workers Register maintained  

by the Social Workers Registration Board at CORU before a contract of  

employment can be issued.  

 

 

  1. Annual registration 

 

(i) On appointment practitioners must maintain annual registration on the Social  

Workers Register maintained by the Social Workers Registration Board at CORU.  

AND  

(ii) Practitioners must confirm annual registration with CORU to the HSE by way of the  

annual Patient Safety Assurance Certificate (PSAC). 

 

Health 

A candidate for and any person holding the office must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the office and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.  

 

Character 

Each candidate for and any person holding the office must be of good character. 

 

Note1: Candidates must achieve a pass in Ordinary or Higher level papers. A pass in a foundation level paper is not acceptableCandidates must have achieved these grades on the Leaving Certificate Established programme or the Leaving Certificate Vocational programmeThe Leaving Certification Applied Programme does not fulfil the eligibility criteria.
