Overview

This post of Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist (Stroke and Neurology) will provide expert clinical leadership to the Physiotherapy service across Cavan and Monaghan Hospitals. The Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist will be based in the Stroke Unit in Cavan General Hospital, and will also provide consults to patients with neuro-rehabilitation needs in Monaghan Rehabilitation Unit.  The Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist will work to improve standards and care pathways for stroke patients and patients with neuro-rehabilitation needs accessing the physiotherapy service.

 

The Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist will:

  • Provide an advanced physiotherapy service to stroke patients and to patients with complex neuro-rehabilitation needs assigned to his/her caseload.
  • Work as part of the physiotherapy and multi-disciplinary team to optimise outcomes for patients following stroke, illness or injury in Cavan Monaghan Hospital
  • Work with the improve standards of care for stroke patients and patients with complex neuro-rehabilitation needs.
  • Work closely with physiotherapists and MDT colleagues in other services to contribute to the improved pathway of care between acute, secondary and primary care services for stroke patients and patients with complex neuro-rehabilitation needs.
  • Be an expert clinical lead for the stroke and neuro-rehabilitation physiotherapy service
  • Promote and ensure the clinical effectiveness of the Physiotherapy service for stroke patients and patients with complex neuro-rehabilitation needs through performance management, education, audit and research.
  • Evaluate and develop clinical effectiveness and research in the specialist area
  • Collate and analyse data to evaluate effectiveness. He/she will be required to produce and present reports when requested
  •  Develop the stroke and neuro-rehabilitation physiotherapy service in Cavan Monaghan Hospital line with national guidelines and strategy.
  •  Advise the Physiotherapist Manager in relation to resource and service development requirements for the specialist area.

 

There is currently one permanent whole-time post available. The base for this post is Cavan General Hospital. There will be a requirement to work 1 day per week on the Monaghan site to provide consults to patients in Monaghan Rehabilitation Unit. A panel will be created from which permanent and specified purpose vacancies of full or part time duration may be filled.

Essential Criteria

Professional Qualifications, Experience, etc.

Eligible applicants will be those who on the closing date of competition have the following:

                                                                                                         AND

 

 

  • Have five years full time (or an aggregate of five years) post qualification experience. Of which four years full time (or an aggregate of four years) post registration qualification clinical experience must be in the required area of Specialism.

 

                                                                                                         AND

  • Demonstrate a proven record of clinical excellence in the specialism.

 

                                                                                                        AND

 


(iv) Candidates must demonstrate evidence of continuing professional development relevant to the required area of specialism, in the form of post-graduate qualifications or relevant courses.

 

                                                                                             AND
(v) Candidates must demonstrate achievement in the areas of clinical audit, quality improvement initiatives, practice development, teaching and research

 

                                                                                                       AND

(vi) Provide proof of Statutory Registration on the Physiotherapists Register maintained by the Physiotherapists Registration Board at CORU before a contract of employment can be issued.  

 

                                                                                                         AND

(vii) Candidates must possess the requisite knowledge and ability (including a high standard of suitability, management, leadership and professional ability) for the proper discharge of the duties of the office.

 

 

  1. Annual registration

(i) On appointment practitioners must maintain annual registration on Physiotherapists Register maintained by the Physiotherapists Registration Board at CORU

(ii) Practitioners must confirm annual registration with CORU to the HSE by way of the annual Patient Safety Assurance Certificate (PSAC).

  1. Health

A candidate for and any person holding the office must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the office and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.

 

  1. Character

Each candidate for and any person holding the office must be of good character.

 

Note*

Individuals who qualified before 30th September 2018 and are registered or have applied for registration under Section 91 of the health and Social Care Professionals Act, 2005, must hold a physiotherapy qualification approved by CORU in order to be eligible to apply. Section 91 candidates are Individuals who qualified before 30th September 2018 and have been engaged in the practice of profession in the Republic of Ireland for a minimum of 2 years fulltime ( or an aggregate of 2 years fulltime), between 1st October 2016 and 30th September 2018 are considered to be Section 91 applicants under the Health and Social Care professionals Act, 2005

 

Post Specific Requirements

  • Participation in the weekend and on-call respiratory physiotherapy roster.
  • Access to own transport.
