The purpose of the post is to assist with the preparation and service of meals and beverages in the hospital at the required time in accordance with the hospital, food safety, hygiene and statutory standards.
To ensure that the catering department and kitchenette service area are kept thoroughly clean at all times. Catering assistants will be required to work in the Main catering department or Ward catering area as per the needs of the service.

Professional Qualifications, Experience, etc.
Eligible applicants will be those who on the closing date for the competition
Have completed second level education to Junior Certificate standard [level 3 on the Quality and Qualifications Ireland Framework] and have obtained a minimum of six passes in the Junior Certificate Examination Ordinary Level or Higher Level including Mathematics and English [or equivalent qualification].
And
A QQI Level 2 Certificate in HACCP and working knowledge of basic food hygiene (HACCP).
And
Have a minimum of 3 years’ experience working in a catering environment in the healthcare or hospitality sector
And
Candidates must have the requisite knowledge and ability (including a high standard of suitability and management ability) for the proper discharge of the duties of the office
Health
A candidate for and any person holding the office must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the office and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.
Character
Each candidate for and any person holding the office must be of good character.
