The pre-assessment service manages the elective patient cohort prior to their admission into hospital. The aim is to assess 100% of patients prior to their elective surgery.
Many Patients will be reviewed in anaesthetic and nurse led clinics, where they will be assessed for their fitness for surgery and tests and investigations will be completed within those clinics. Education and information is provided to patients at these appointments.
By having patients pre-assessed prior to their surgery we are enhancing patient safety, reducing cancellations on the day of surgery and helping optimise both theatre and waiting lists.
The team in pre-assessment consists of a lead anaesthetic consultants, a CNM 2 and has 2.4 RNs.
The post of CNM 2 has a pivotal role in service planning, co-ordinating, and managing activity and resources within the clinical area. The main responsibilities are: quality assurance, resource management, staffing and staff development, practice development, facilitating communication and professional / clinical leadership.
