Purpose of Post

The Director of Nursing 4 will be responsible for the overall governance and management of the Community Centres in the areas. He/she will provide strategic leadership, operating in accordance with the policies, procedures and guidelines of the HSE and in collaboration with other professionals and the Service Manager in achieving service goals.

 

The Director of Nursing has a pivotal role in creating the vision and culture for the service. He/She will have overarching responsibility for service planning, coordination and management of activity and resources and will lead on the implementation of change. He/She will empower staff to support older people to continue to exercise independence and autonomy in leading a full life regardless of their level of dependency.

The Director of Nursing has overall responsibility for the implementation of and compliance with HIQA Regulations and Standards.

Older Persons Services Cavan Monaghan. There is currently 1 Permanent Whole-time post available in Cavan Services for Older Persons.

Essential Criteria

Candidates must have at the latest date of application: -

 

  1. Statutory Registration, Professional Qualifications, Experience, etc. (a)   Eligible applicants will be those who on the closing date for the competition have the following:

 (i)  Are registered, or are eligible for registration, in the General Nurse Division of the Register of Nurses and Midwives maintained by the Nursing        and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) (Bord Altranais agus Cnaimhseachais na hEireann).

 

And

 

                     (ii) Have ten years post registration nursing experience consisting of at least three years’ experience nursing older people in the last six years and                            five years’ experience in a nurse management role in the health and social care area.

 

And

 

(iii) Are educated to Level 8 on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) maintained by Qualify & Qualifications of Ireland (QQI) in a

      Nursing or related field. (See Note Below*)

 

                   And

 

          (b)  Candidates must possess the requisite clinical, leadership, managerial and administrative knowledge and ability for the proper discharge of the duties                  of the office.

 

      2.   Annual Registration

                  (i) Practitioners must maintain live annual registration in the General Nurse Division, and other divisions are relevant to the specific     

                        service, of the Register of Nurses and Midwives, as appropriate, maintained by the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Ireland [NMBI] (Bord Altranais                            agus Cnaimhseachais na hEireann).

 

                 And

 

          (ii) Confirm annual registration with NMBI to the HSE by way of the annual Patient Safety Assurance Certificate (PSAC).

 

 Note*

As per S.I. No. 98 of 2025 not later than the 31st of March 2028, eligible applicants must have either:

 

         (i) A post registration management or leadership certificate in health or a related field at a minimum of Level 8 qualification on the National Framework of    

             Qualifications (NFQ).

 

         (ii)  A nursing post-graduate qualification at a minimum of Level 9 on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) which includes a management or                       leadership module.

 

        (iii)   A person who is employed to be a person in charge (PIC) who is named on the register maintained by the Chief Inspector and/or was availing of         

               statutory leave from the position on or before the 31st of March 2025 shall be exempt from being required to obtain the qualifications, as outlined in

               Note* (i) and (ii) above – As reflected in S.I No 98 of 2025.

 

 

The changes regarding qualification criteria for persons-in-charge (PICs) apply only to newly appointed PICs from the 31st of March 2025, and a three-year lead-in period has been established. 

 

For clarity, the Level 8 qualification in a nursing or related field as outlined in criterion 1 (a) (iii) can be achieved through the completion of a non-major course or award.

 

Please note that appointment to and continuation in posts that require statutory registration is dependent upon the post holder maintaining annual registration in the relevant division of the register maintained by: Bord Altranais agus Cnáimhseachais na hÉireann (Nursing Midwifery Board Ireland)

 

Health

A candidate for and any person holding the office must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the office and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.

 

Character

Each candidate for and any person holding the office must be of good character.

The roles will evolve as the structures within the Healthcare Area as further developed and established
