Overview

The Senior Speech and Language Therapist is responsible for the provision of provide quality evidence based, speech and language therapy intervention for patients in Louth Hospitals. The successful candidate will work with MDT colleagues and engage in team based work as necessary.

The Senior Speech and Language Therapist will work with the Speech and Language Therapist Manager and other members of the department in co-ordinating the service and developing the service to meet the needs of the service user.

 

A panel may be created for future full time, part time, permanent or temporary vacancies

Essential Criteria

 

Candidates must:

  • Graduate of a School of Speech and Language Therapy recognised by the CORU 

Candidates must on the closing date possess:

  • The BSc degree (Clinical Speech and Language Studies) from the university of Dublin

Or

  • The BA(Moderatorship)(Remedial Linguistics) from the University of Dublin

Or

  • The MSc in Speech and Language Therapy (Professional qualification ) from the University of Limerick

Or

  • Licentiateship from the College of Speech Therapists

Or

  • A validated Speech and Language qualification at least equivalent to the above

 

Applicants whose first language is not English and/or who have undergone their Speech and Language Therapy training through English must have achieved the following:

A Minimum score of 8.0 in the International English language Testing (IELTS)

A pass in the Clinical English Language Competence Exam (CECE)

 

Speech and Language Therapists who work with people with feeding ,eating, drinking and swallowing difficulties must hold a dysphagia qualification or equivalent as outlined in

“Standards of practice for Speech and Language Therapists on the Management of Feeding, Eating , Drinking and Swallowing Disorders(Dysphagia)”,Irish Association of Speech and Language Therapists (IASLT) 2007

 

A recognised dysphagia qualification as approved by CORU/ IASLT

Experience in conducting Videofluoroscopy is desirable

 

Post Specific:

Direct clinical experience of working in an acute setting with adults in an acute setting. Demonstrable experience in assessing and managing a range of communication impairments and FEDS disorders.

Candidates will be required to take up work within three months of receipt of an offer of employment.
