• To work in conjunction with other team members in co-ordinating and developing the Acute Rehabilitation service on the medical wards, to meet the needs of the population it serves in line with the objectives of the organisation.  

• To provide a holistic, multidisciplinary approach to the care of individuals with acute and chronic medical conditions. The patient cohort may include, but is not limited to, older persons and frailty, neurological conditions, oncology, generalised decreased function & cardiorespiratory.  

• To be responsible for the provision of a high quality physiotherapy rehabilitation service in accordance with standards of professional practice.   

• To work with the Physiotherapy Manager in ensuring the co-ordination, development and delivery of a quality, client centred physiotherapy rehabilitation service across the hospital, and between networks in the geographical area, and to aid patient flow, through the understanding and development of patient pathways 

• To perform multi system assessments e.g. mobility and cardiorespiratory, to help restore and maintain optimum function of patients on medical wards  

• To provide clinical and professional supervision to staff grades while ensuring optimum organisational performance of the service.  

Candidates for appointment must:  

1. Essential Criteria:  

Statutory Registration, Professional Qualifications, Experience  

• Be registered, or be eligible for registration, on the Physiotherapists Register maintained by the Physiotherapists Registration Board at CORU.

  AND  

•  Candidates must have three years full time (or an aggregate of three years full time) post qualification clinical experience, this must include a minimum of six months Acute Inpatient Rehabilitation Physiotherapy experience.

AND   

• Provide proof of Statutory Registration on the Physiotherapists Register maintained by the Physiotherapists Registration Board at CORU before a contract of employment can be issued.  

 Professional Development and Practice 

• Candidates must demonstrate evidence of continuing professional development    

• Have the requisite knowledge and ability (including a high standard of suitability and professional ability) for the proper discharge of the duties of the office. 

Annual registration   

• On appointment practitioners must maintain annual registration on the Physiotherapists Register maintained by the Physiotherapists Registration Board at CORU  

AND 

• Practitioners must confirm annual registration with CORU to the HSE by way of the annual Patient Safety Assurance Certificate (PSAC).   

Health 

A candidate for and any person holding the office must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the office and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.  

Character 

Each candidate for and any person holding the office must be of good character. 

Note1: Candidates must achieve a pass in Ordinary or Higher level papers. A pass in a foundation level paper is not acceptable.  Candidates must have achieved these grades on the Leaving Certificate Established programme or the Leaving Certificate Vocational programme.  The Leaving Certification Applied Programme does not fulfil the eligibility criteria.
