Overview

The candidate will primarily be based in Cavan General Hospital with responsibility for Cavan General Hospital and Monaghan Hospitals.

The Practice Development Co-ordinator will:

  • Facilitate the development of a continuous process of improvement in nursing practice in the acute setting and excellence in the quality of care being provided.
  • Strategically plan, develop and evaluate nursing care in collaboration with the nursing management teams and nursing staff.

This role requires a combined knowledge of clinical practice, project management, service management, continuing nurse education and professional development and evaluation of outcomes. The candidate will be required to participate in audit and research as determined by the role. Please be advised that this post is subject to RECC final approval.

Essential Criteria

1. Statutory Registration, Professional Qualifications, Experience, etc

(a) Eligible applicants will be those who on the closing date for the competition:

(i)  Are registered, or are eligible for registration, in the General Nurse Division, and other divisions as relevant to the specific service, of the Register of Nurses and Midwives, as appropriate, maintained by the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Ireland [NMBI] (Bord Altranais agus Cnáimhseachais na hÉireann).

                                                                       AND

(ii)  Have successfully completed a post registration programme of study, as certified by the education provider, which verifies that the applicant has achieved a National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) major academic Level 9 or higher award maintained by Quality & Qualifications of Ireland (QQI) or can provide written evidence from the Higher Education Institute that they have achieved the number of ECTS credits equivalent to a Level 9 or higher standard in a health care or management related area.

                                                                       OR

(iii)  Give a commitment to undertake a relevant post registration qualification at not less than Level 9 (QQI) qualification in one of the following: Health Care, Quality Improvement, Risk Management, Health and Safety or Leadership and Management related area within a specific time scale to be decided.

                                                                       AND

(iv)  Have 7 years post registration nursing experience and 3 years nursing management experience at a minimum of Clinical Nurse Manager 2 (CNM 2) in an acute setting.

                                                                       AND                                                           

(b) Candidates must possess the requisite clinical, leadership, managerial and administrative knowledge and ability for the proper discharge of the duties of the office.

 

2. Annual registration 

Practitioners must maintain live annual registration in the General Nurse Division, and other divisions as relevant to the specific service, of the Register of Nurses and Midwives, as appropriate, maintained by the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Ireland [NMBI] (Bord Altranais agus Cnáimhseachais na hÉireann).                                                                              

                                                                 AND

(ii) Practitioners must confirm annual registration with NMBI to the HSE by way of the annual Patient Safety Assurance Certificate (PSAC).

 

Post Specific Requirements

Demonstrate depth and breadth of nursing management experience in clinical practice management, practice development, education or quality improvement as relevant to the role.
