Overview

Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital (OLOLH), is a designated Trauma Unit, as part of the Central Trauma Network, and serves as a key acute care hospital for the North East region. The person appointed to this post will oversee the planning and establishment of the Trauma Physiotherapy Service in OLOLH, which will operate in conjunction with the overall physiotherapy service. The person appointed will work as part of multidisciplinary teams, under the governance of consultants in a variety of specialties related to trauma.

 

Job Purpose:

  • To manage, organise, and co-ordinate the OLOLH physiotherapy acute trauma service in conjunction with rehabilitation services.
  • To provide a high standard of physiotherapy assessment, treatment and advice to patients, and ensure a seamless transition of care within OLOLH, and between OLOLH and Major Trauma Units, rehabilitation sites, and community teams.
  • To provide physiotherapy leadership to the multidisciplinary team and link closely with other multi-disciplinary teams including critical care, orthopaedics, surgery, neurology, and care of the older person.
  • To work in an advisory capacity to therapy and medical directorates, regional or national agencies as required.

Key Responsibilities

Essential Criteria

Statutory Registration, Professional Qualifications, Experience

 

  • Be registered, or be eligible for registration, on the Physiotherapists Register maintained by the Physiotherapists Registration Board at CORU.

AND

(ii)   Have 5 years full time (or an aggregate of five years full time)  years post qualification clinical experience of which 4 years must be consecutive in the required area of specialism

 

AND

  • Demonstrate a proven record of clinical excellence in the specialism

  • Provide proof of Statutory Registration on the Physiotherapists Register maintained by the Physiotherapists Registration Board at CORU before a contract of employment can be issued.

 

 Professional Development and Practice

 

  • Candidates must demonstrate evidence of continuing professional development relevant to the required area of specialism, in the form of post-graduate qualifications or relevant courses

 

  • Have the requisite knowledge and ability (including a high standard of suitability and professional ability) for the proper discharge of the duties of the office.

 

 

 

  1. Annual registration

(i) On appointment practitioners must maintain annual registration on the Physiotherapists Register maintained by the Physiotherapists Registration Board at CORU

AND

(ii)               Practitioners must confirm annual registration with CORU to the HSE by way of the annual Patient Safety Assurance Certificate (PSAC).

Candidates for and any person holding the office must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the office and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.

Post Specific:

  • Evidence of experience in an acute hospital setting, assessing and treating trauma patients.
  • Up to date in latest research/best practice in trauma speciality areas e.g. acute trauma, acute respiratory care, early rehabilitation, exercise prescription, latest surgical practices, etc.
