The Healthcare Assistant will assist Nursing Staff in the care of patients and undertake other duties, communicate with their grade which has been delegated to him/her by the nurse-in-charge of the ward. On each working rota the Healthcare Assistant will work under the supervision and discretion of nursing staff.  In relation to duties and responsibilities associated with direct patient care, nursing staff will decide in respect of each patient the work which will be undertaken by the Assistant.

The HSE has created six new health regions. Each region is responsible for providing both hospital and community care for the people in that area. Bringing community health services and hospitals together means we can take a more patient-centred approach to healthcare.

1. Statutory Registration, Professional Qualifications, Experience, etc.

1. a) Eligible applicants will be those who on the closing date for the competition:

1. Possess a relevant* Health Skills qualification as outlined in the Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI) formerly Fetac on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) or not less than QQI level 5

                                                           OR

1. Possess relevant Healthcare qualification at no less than QQI level 5 on the National Framework of the Qualifications (NFQ)

                                                          OR

• Be currently undertaking a relevant Health Skills QQI 5 Level qualification on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) with a commitment to complete the appropriate Health skills QQ5 Qualification within 2 years of taking up the post.

                                                          OR

1. Be currently employed as a Healthcare Assistant, Care Assistant, Attendant, Multitask Attendant or in a comparable role for at least 2 years and give an undertaking to acquire an appropriate Health Skill qualification at no less QQI level 5 programme on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) within 2 years of taking up the post.

                                      AND

1. b) Candidates must possess the requisite knowledge and ability, including a high standard of suitability, for the proper discharge of the role.
