Overview

The HCA role in Endoscopy is a multipurpose HCA role. The HCA works as part of a multidisciplinary team to assist in the provision of health and social care for patients. The HCA supports and assists patients in all activities of daily living in line with the needs and wishes of the individual and as outlined in their plan of care.

 

As part of the role the HCA in endoscopy is also responsible for carrying out decontamination of endoscopes and associated equipment, maintaining decontamination process records and monitoring quality and safety standards in the decontamination room. Training in the use of the AER (automatic Endoscopy repressor) will be provided.

Essential Criteria

Professional Qualifications, Experience, etc.

 

Candidates must have at the closing date for receipt of applications:

 

The relevant health skills QQI (formerly FETAC) level 5 qualification.

OR

 

An equivalent relevant health care qualification or a comparable healthcare qualification as outlined in the Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI) NARIC Ireland framework.

OR

 

Be currently employed as a Health Care Assistant or a comparable role.

 

AND

Candidates must have the personal competence and capacity to properly discharge the duties of the role.

 

 

post specific requirements:

  • Complete training in the use of the AER (automatic Endoscopy repressor) and be deemed competent in same.  
  • Complete on line HSEland decontamination course.
  • Participate and complete 5 day decontamination course for HCAs
  • Must attend in service education as appropriate to the role.
