Overview

Occupational Therapy Service

Louth County Hospitals has an established Occupational Therapy Service of over 30 staff across three sites (Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital Drogheda, Cottage Community Hub Drogheda and Louth County Hospital Dundalk).

Louth County Hospitals Occupational Therapy department provides a wide range of acute, outpatient and rehabilitation services i.e. Medical, Neurology, Care of the Elderly, Frailty, Orthopaedics, Rehabilitation, Stroke, Surgical, early supported discharge, hand therapy, critical care etc.

 

The person appointed to this Clinical Specialist Occupational Therapist post will work as part of the multi-disciplinary teams delivering a coordinated approach to patients in the Stroke Service.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the development of the OT service in the Stroke service. They will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of their relevant complex patient caseload, the assessment and treatment of patients on the stroke Service and supervision of senior and staff grade occupational therapists, occupational therapy assistants and students as required.

 

Louth Hospitals is part of the Dublin/North East health Authority Region.

Essential Criteria

  1. Statutory Registration, Professional Qualifications, Experience, etc.

 

  • Candidates for appointment must:

 

  • Be registered, or be eligible for registration, on the Occupational Therapists Register maintained by the Occupational Therapists Registration Board at CORU. (https://www.coru.ie/)

And

  • Have five years full time (or equivalent) years post qualification clinical experience of which four years full time (or equivalent) must be consecutive in the required area of specialism.

 

And

 

  • Demonstrate a proven record of clinical excellence.

 

And

 

  • Professional Development and Practice

 

Candidates must demonstrate evidence of continuing professional development relevant to the required area of specialism, in the form of post-graduate qualifications or relevant courses.

 

And

 

Candidates must demonstrate achievement in the areas of clinical audit, quality improvement initiatives, practice development, teaching and research.

 

And

 

  • Have the requisite knowledge and ability (including a high standard of suitability, management, leadership and professional ability) for the proper discharge of the duties of the office.

 

  • Provide proof of Statutory Registration on the Occupational Therapists Register maintained by the Occupational Therapists Registration Board at CORU before a contract of employment can be issued.

 

  1. Annual Registration
  • Practitioners must maintain annual registration on Occupational Therapists Register maintained by the Occupational Therapists Registration Board at CORU.

 

And

 

  • Confirm annual registration with CORU to the HSE by way of the annual Patient Safety Assurance Certificate (PSAC).

 

  1. Health

A candidate for and any person holding the office must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the office and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.

 

  1. Character

Each candidate for and any person holding the office must be of good character.
