The successful candidate will be part of the Integrated Respiratory Care team.
The role of the Senior Physiotherapist will differ according to the needs and configuration of existing services at the local level. The successful candidate will work across the acute hospital and integrated services providing support to the integrated respiratory consultant and the ambulatory hubs and specialist teams to manage respiratory disease, and associated co-morbidities, within the acute and community setting, where appropriate.
The person appointed to this post will work in the overall respiratory service with 50% of time based in the acute setting and 50% of time based in community supporting the respiratory consultants as required. The post holder will work as part of a multidisciplinary team delivering coordinated evidence based care for respiratory patients.
Please note a portion of the appointees work will be carried out “off site”. This means that the appointee will travel to the hubs to perform duties related to the role.
The Clinical Nurse Manager 2 in Pre-assessment/Preadmission is responsible for the pre-operative nursing assessment of patients being prepared for a variety of surgical procedures. The post holder will provide a comprehensive nursing assessment, including baseline outcome measurement, ensuring that all necessary investigations and results are collated prior to the patient’s admission.
The pre-assessment nurse will liaise with Anaesthetists/Surgeons regarding potential medical issues pertaining to surgery and appropriate onward referral to primary and secondary care providers to ensure pre-operative health is optimised. The pre-assessment nurse will also act as the co-ordinator of care until the patient is admitted for surgery.

The successful candidate will be part of the In-Patient Trauma & Orthopaedic Service of Connolly Hospital. The In-Patient Trauma & Orthopaedic Physiotherapy service also encompasses care of amputees, plastics and certain spinal cord injury patients under the care of Orthopaedics in Connolly Hospital.
Post Holder will be based primarily within In-Patient Trauma & Orthopaedics. Currently there are six Orthopaedic Consultant Surgeons providing the Orthopaedic service in Connolly Hospital. This service encompasses Redwood Orthopaedic Ward & Surgical Day Ward. The post holder will be responsible for the management of elective & trauma orthopaedic patients together with complex polytrauma patients which will include respiratory care of such patients. The service also provides cover for specific rapid review Orthopaedic presentations into the ED. The Post holder will act as a clinical resource and be available for consult with Physiotherapy colleagues across the service. Post holder will also be responsible to further develop & operate the Therapy Pre Assessment Clinic (TPACS) with their MDT colleagues.
The Post Holder will carry out clinical duties and educational duties as required, while developing the Physiotherapy service in line with National Clinical Care Programme. The successful candidate will participate in the Hip Fracture Clinical Governance meetings, reviewing data and engaging in QI based on same, as recommended by the Irish Hip Fracture Database Reports. The post holder will present service data at the quarterly Orthopaedic Clinical Governance meetings in the hospital.
The successful candidate will work with the Physiotherapy Manager/Orthopaedic Consultants in ensuring the co-ordination, development and delivery of a quality, client centred physiotherapy service across all relevant clinical spheres.

The Haematology Pharmacist clinically screens chemotherapy prescriptions for patients with haematological malignancies and orders and dispenses cytotoxic drugs for these patients.
Other aspects of the service include antibiotic stewardship and surveillance, outpatient dispensing to Connolly Hospital staff and to patients of the Mental Health Service; formulary management, drug protocol development, and audit

The Midwifery Led Unit provides:
Antenatal. Intrapartum and Postnatal care to low risk women. Care is delivered by a team of midwives whose practice is guided by regional evidence based guidelines. If there is any deviation from the normal at any stage of pregnancy, delivery, or post-natal period the mother or neonate is transferred to consultant led care. The facility has two birthing and overnight rooms set in a homely environment.
Special Care Baby Unit provides:
Neonatal care to babies born electively after 30 weeks gestation and at earlier gestations as unplanned deliveries. Neonates requiring intensive care are ventilated, stabilised and transferred to one of the Dublin Neonatal Units primarily Rotunda Hospital and return to Cavan for high dependency and special care until discharge. The capacity of the unit is 5 cots and 1 isolation room with one overnight stay room for mothers.
